DON'T WAIT! THINGS GET DONE IN 2008! ************************************************************* Habit for July 2008 A new month means a new habit to practice! This month our habit is Swish and Swipe! Here is how FlyLady describes Swish and Swipe: As part of my morning routine I clean my bathroom. Now this is not the crisis cleaning because company is coming and you have not touched the bathroom in months. This is a daily maintenance that keeps it company ready all the time! I know many of you don't think that this needs to be done but I assure you that you deserve to clean and fresh smelling bathroom all the time too. It don't take much time to do this either. This is why I called it a swish and a swipe. Doesn't that sound like a lick and a promise! Quick and easy! Here is how it works and once you establish this habit, your bathroom will never look and smell dirty again. To accomplish this you need a couple of things to keep in your bathroom. I have my favorite window cleaner in each bathroom just for this purpose along with a roll of paper towels or old wash cloths. You can use what ever you like just so you don't have to leave the room to swish and swipe. You will have no excuse to get sidetracked if you will do this. Here is the swipe part. I take the window cleaner and a rag and wipe off the mirror and then the counter, faucets and sink. Bam it is just that fast. Now I do this as I am getting dressed and I put my things away. Do you hear me? Put your stuff away as you use them this keeps your counter clear and easy to wipe down. Then I take that same paper towel or rag and head toward the toilet. I keep a toilet bowl brush beside each toilet in our home. They are kept in a crock (one like you put kitchen utensils in). I keep an all-purpose cleaner like old shampoo in it (not bathroom caustic cleaner). Soap is soap as far as I am concerned. You could use old shampoo that you hate or what ever you have. They are even making some great new toilet bowl brushes that are kept in cylinders that have lids. Now don't do this if you have little children or pets that will get into this. Each take take the brush and let the excess cleaner drip off; if it is thick you may have to water down the solution a bit so it will drain well. Then take the toilet bowl brush and swish it around in the toilet. Even if you don't use any soap; you will keep stuff from growing in there. Then wipe off the back of the toilet with the used paper towel or rag, then the seat, the rim and lastly the sides and floor. If you have little boys you know how they miss. Then toss the rag in the laundry or the paper towel in the trash. When you do this once a day you will find that your toilet is always fresh as a daisy. There you have it Swish and Swipe! This takes all of about 1 minute from start to finish but you have to have everything in the bathroom so you have no excuses to not do this. **************************************** Missions for Zone 3 - The Main Bathroom and for the other room - another bathroom in the house! It is Swish and Swipe month!! **************************************** Zone 3: Mission #1 Monday Dear Friends: This is one of my favorite missions! This is what I will be doing this morning! Spend 15 minutes decluttering health and beauty aids! This means toss the old medicines, hair sprays, gels, shampoos, conditioners, old razors, old dried up nail polish, old cosmetics and anything else that is hanging around in your bathroom that you have not used in the past year! Grab a trash bag and start tossing. Don't hold onto something because you "might" use it, or because you might need it, this is how clutter breeds (an also how bacteria breeds if you are holding onto old cosmetics, brushes or sponges)! Be brutal and toss, toss, toss. I trust you all to make good decisions in disposing of these items. Recycle containers or packaging that can be recycled, if you are not sure how to dispose of certain medications - contact your local pharmacy or poison control center to get instructions for your specific medication. When you complete this mission you will love how your bathroom feels, I know I use that sentence a lot for missions but it is so true! LOL! Have fun and toss, toss, TOSS! Kelly **************************************** Zone 3: Mission #2 Tuesday Dear Friends: We are headed into the bathroom this week. Let's grab some general purpose cleaner and shine those counter tops and shine our bathroom sinks! Clear everything off the counter top and wipe them from side to side and top to bottom. Then use a little elbow grease and scrub your sink, then spritz the counter top and sink with a little Windex to make it shine. Have fun with this and don't obsess, this should take less then 15 minutes and you will love the results! Kelly ******************************************** Zone 3: Mission #3 Wednesday Dear Friends, This week we are in our bathrooms. Today we are going to focus on our least favorite job in the bathroom. You may have to bring out the heavy guns for this one. We are going clean around the backside, front and the sides of our toilets. Then wipe down all the surfaces. I know it is a nasty job, but you will thank me when the nasty stomach flu hits your family. Nothing says I love you like a clean toilet when we have our face in them. Kelly *********************************************** Zone 3: Mission #4 Thursday Dear Friends: Today we are going to shine our tubs or showers! We have talked about shining our sinks since you started and we want you take 5 or 10 minutes to shine that tub or shower. Do not get obsessed with the tub being perfect. Just scrub the tub with whatever works. There is no perfect tub/shower cleaner or perfect way to do this. Shampoo on a wash cloth will work! Whatever or however you choose, anything is better then nothing, then spritz it with a little Windex and dry it with a towel like you shine your sink. Kelly *************************************************** Zone 3: Mission #5 Friday Dear Friends: Well, you had to know that this mission was coming! It is time to clear off the flat surfaces in the bathroom. This means the edge of the tub, the counter tops and the back of the toilets. We have a tendency to let things pile up on these areas and usually it is just clutter. Toss what you can toss and put away the rest! Those shampoo bottles, hair scrunchies and cosmetics. You know the stuff that I am speaking of! Have fun with this!
